The book collection of the institute library operates in two service locations:

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE LIBRARY

The institute library is part of the faculty library network and exists within the framework of the ELTE University Library Service.
Its total stock contains approximately 75,000 library items. In addition to its collection of specialist books and periodicals, the institute's library keeps printed copies of theses and doctoral dissertations previously defended at the institute (not yet submitted electronically). Donations from authors and partner institutions, sometimes book bequests, play an important role in expanding its book collection. We try to make your valuable book material, collected with great attention and love of the subject, accessible to a wide range of users.

The Hungarian Linguistics Collection
Over time, the collection has evolved from the teacher's handbook of the department that has long provided the teaching of Hungarian linguistics at our university into a serious higher education library. The library continues to function as the library of an organizational unit that is transformed into a group of departments and then into an institute, managing the book collections of previously independent departments, serving the needs of a wide range of students and researchers.

Its holdings number about 45,000 volumes. To the best of its ability, it strives to collect the Hungarian-language literature pertaining to the Hungarian language belonging to each branch of linguistics. He acquires specialized literature in foreign languages in a more selective way, depending on his possibilities. Source literature, i.e. sources that are the subject of possible linguistic analyzes (historical sources, Hungarian fiction, name and document libraries), dictionaries and manuals, as well as specialist books and manuals of allied sciences and auxiliary sciences, are available to readers at the educational and basic level. In terms of its old dictionary and grammar material of museum value, as well as the traditional Hungarian linguistic literature, the library has a unique collection among institutions of the same type. It can be said to be unique in terms of traditional Hungarian linguistic literature before the Second World War.

The Finno-Ugric Collection
Its collection is approximately 30,000 volumes. The primary purpose of the Finno-Ugric collection is to support teaching and research related to Finno-Ugric studies. Scope: Finno-Ugric (Ural) historical and descriptive linguistics, history, literature, education, cultural history, ethnography, prehistory of the Finno-Ural (Ural) peoples in the languages of Hungarian and the respective Uralic peoples, as well as in other languages, as well as Hungarian and general linguistics Finno-Ugric ( materials containing Uralic) aspects in the form of books and magazines; the most important works published abroad on the above subject; domestic and foreign manuals and reference books necessary for education and research; summary works of related sciences.
